Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll is hoping to land Manchester City defender Matthew Mills.

The 21-year-old enjoyed two loan spells at the Keepmoat Stadium last season before returning to Man City to be assessed by new manager Mark Hughes.

It now seems that City are ready to sell Mills and O'Driscoll is looking to push through a permanent deal.

"They have decided that he is going to be too far down the pecking order and that was the first indication that Manchester City were willing to sell him," said O'Driscoll.

"Hopefully we can move it forward as quickly as possible."

Get him out soon as. Never been good enough. We have young central defenders comming through better than him.

Danny Mills shagging a chick from Hollyoaks?

Maybe Jamie Pollack will get to knock his nail into Jessica Alba.

Me too.

Although he did play well for Doncaster last season and helped them get promoted to the Championship, I don't think he's good enough for the Prem. Get rid soon as. Or maybe another years loan and see how he develops?

Great point, hope will happen. Still young and not a bad defender at all.

Doncaster set for Mills decision

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll will know in the next 24 hours whether or not Manchester City defender Matt Mills will sign for the club.

Rovers agreed a deal to sign the 22-year-old in May and O'Driscoll thinks the deal has dragged on too long.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We're as close as we've been, if we can get him, we'll get him in the next 24 hours."

Rovers have taken Bristol City centre-back Richard Keogh and Dutch defender Jos van Nieuwstadt on trial.

O'Driscoll said: "If we don't [sign Mills], we've looked at three or four centre-halves to give us options."

Keogh and Excelsior's Van Nieuwstadt both featured in Rovers' 2-0 pre-season win at Port Vale on Tuesday, along with an unnamed Spanish player from Real Sociedad.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 player Keogh, 21, looks set to leave City after failing to accept a new contract offer.
