I wonderd about this, With Johno and a DM (Hamman, Gelson or somone we buy)
he doesnt fit, Although against weaker teams we wont need a DM and so Elano would partner Johno. Against the best teams we may play 4 4 1 1 with Jo playing off Elano, he's difficult to fit in but worth the hassle as he's undoubtably a class player.

if and when we get a decent RM and if we choose to play 4-4-2 I'd take it he'd play in the middle of the midfield, trouble is what do we do with gelson Ireland Hamann and johnson??? I'd say Johnno was a starter in which case we'd have our RM Johnson Elano and Petrov with benji and Jo maybe up front. Though if we played a 4-5-1 i always thought Elano would be good just playing behind a striker and in front of the midfield linking up the play.

i rate him higher than johnson he's a brazilian international player next to an england u-21........ need you say more. Plus i've lost my love for johnson after all the stories about his link to the scouse, and him being more interested in that than playing for us. In a few years then johnson will be awesome but at the moment elano is better. However if you look back at when we were playing good last season it was the link up play between johnson and elano that was getting us goals. The weak link in our midfield in my opinion is ireland. I know Hughes wants to play the standard 4-4-2 but I reckon we stick with the 4-5-1 then in the last 20 if we're drawing or losing switch to the 4-4-2 and throw on the sub striker be it Benj, Boj, Jo, Bianchi(i think we should give another chance), Corradi(kidding), Evans, Sturridge (you get the picture)
lol

i am hoping we dont play with just the one upfront. as last season it didnt work great, elano is a great player but cant see him fitting in. need a rw desperately. yep that was the best football we played elano and johnson.

Hughes will not play one up front and i think that he will drop the weaker/lightweight midfeilders.

I think that Elano is too slow for the right wing so therefore would have to be in the centre but i dont know who Hughes would drop. Johnson was rubbish at the end of last season, but saying that the whole team were.

I think there's room for them all over the length of the season and FOUR competitions........Gelson, Hamman, Elano, Ireland, Johnson, Petrov, even Richards (as has been suggested) and a couple more if you ask me........switch them around throughout the season, we'll need them all.

Brazilian international or Johnson. No contest i'm afraid. If we are going to play with a ball winner in midfield (maybe micah), then you have to say that attacking wise, Elano is better than Johnson at pretty much everything.

Are people forgetting that Elano was most effective when Johnson was fit and playing in the middle prior to Christmas? I'm sure Hughes knows this and will look to build the squad around them. Elano in midfield in a flat 4-4-2 would be ineffective and leave us out muscled.

Bit harsh given that he'd just come back from injury.

I don't get why everybody is panicking about how we'll fit Elano in. First of all he's gotta prove he's worth a place in the team, which at his best he undoubtedly is. But take his form from October onwards (and yes i know he had injuries) and he's not worth a place in the starting 11. Now obviously he's had the season to get used to the league and hopefully should improve this season, but don't take it for granted that Elano is an definite starter.

Shut up... tit! lol!
Nah, it is an option, but not one I think would work.

I just wish everyone would fuck off worrying coz Hughes will have in his head a masterplan and this will be implemented this coming season, so fuck off whinging and let him get on with his job

It isn't attractive and i know we will get sick of it, but i thinks he should start with 4-5-1. Tactically I think it's the right option . . .

Just 4-3-3 in disguise, push the outside mids up and voilà what have you got.
