Van Damme is a nice player for my team, Anderlecht. But he has a lot of competition at left back. Vermaelen can play there and so can Pocognoli of AZ. He's a leftback with the right qualities for the Premiership. Tough, good with his head and scores a lot of goals on corners and free kicks. I like his style...

and his name is a good promise for a defender :)

I only asked cuz his name wasn't in the first post up there^ as one of their "hot prospects". Maybe he's too old to be a prospect anymore?

Van Buyten isn't really that popular in Belgium. He only makes the team when someone is injured, like last time against Spain. He only played two or three good games for us and when the youngsters like Vermaelen and Kompany were on their way he had to make room. It's the same with Timmy Simons, the captain of PSV Eindhoven. He still plays a lot but the national manager is starting to doubt him so Vermaelen is already playing some more.

Hello,

Here's an Anderlecht supporter again. I said I was going to ask the ones who had doubts what you did think of our Vince The Prince. We saw he improved a lot when he impressed the belgian public when Spain stole the victory against our Red Devils (Belgian national team).

So, what are the opinions after half a season of this magnificent player?

And what do you think of the other belgian player in the Premier League, Marouane Fellaini. We only hear good things, apart from his suspensions. I know he doesn't play for your team but we have a national team that everybody in Belgium expects a lot of with al of them young players. I'll post the team in this thread. Maybe Man City can buy some of these hot prospects. I'll put the age and club under the player

Stijnen
27, Club Brugge
Vanden Borre - Kompany - Vermaelen - Van Damme
21, Genua -22, Manchester City - 23, Ajax - 25, Anderlecht
Fellaini - Vertonghen
21, Everton - 21, Ajax
Witsel ------------------ Defour
19, Standard ------------20, Standard
Sonck - Dembélé
30, Club Brugge - 21, AZ

If this thread isn't in the right place, sorry I didn't know where to put it. Or you can erase if you think it's bollocks.

Sorry for my English, I know it isn't any good...

I did not know jean claude van damme had jacked his "acting" career in to play for Belgium, wow wonders never cease to amaze me......:p

Kompany is named Barclays player of the season

Captain fantastic Vincent Kompany has been named the Barclays Player of the Season after an incredible 2011/12 campaign.

The central defender has been a rock at the back for the title favourites and his leadership has been recognised by a panel of experts in winning this award.

The well-organised City defence, orchestrated by Kompany, has kept 17 clean sheets this campaign leading to another award this time for Joe Hart who collected the top flight's Golden Glove prize.

Kompany has also scored his share of goals with a tally of three to date, including of course the winner against United at the end of April.

This is the first time that a City player has picked up the award.

Vincent Kompany has insisted he is not interested in leaving Manchester City as he wants to be a part of the club's long-term project.

Kompany lifted the Premier League title with City this season and his exploits as captain have earned widespread acclaim.

There have been suggestions that a number of major European clubs are keeping a close eye on the Belgian defender, but he has assured supporters that he is totally committed to City.

Kompany believes City can build on their Premier League success and must now start to think about challenging for European glory.

"I'm happy in Manchester. Lots of people want me to talk about moving but what interests me is Manchester City," he said in The People.

"The project here is not just a sporting one. It will bring a lot to the city and to the people.

"We can't stop with the title. We want to win the Champions League.

"Is it possible in three to four years? Maybe not, but when I see what's been achieved at the club in the last few years, nothing is impossible."

Golden era

Kompany believes the foundations are in place for City to enjoy a golden era and he is excited about what might lie ahead in the next decade or two.

"We're going to build a new training centre to bring together the junior and senior players," he explained.

"The project is to take the club back to its former glories but people won't see this for perhaps another 10 years. I'm happy to be part of all that.

"It's not a three-year project but rather one for 10, 15, 20 years. It's exciting to think I can be part of taking the club where it wants to go."

Bless him :approve:

I think he's very happy here. He was decent when he arrived, he has gotten better and better. Consummate professional is Vincent, basically the complete contemporary anti-footballer.

Racist chants 80k fine. Commercial stunt 100k fine + 1 match ban... UEFA might need to review their order of priorities, don't you think?

Surely if you were a sponsor, you would consider racism as a more dangerous association than the dammage caused by commercial opportunism?

I just can't ever seem to be connecting with UEFA's or FIFA's vision for the game, without therefor disregarding their achievements.

Mr. Platini is often clumsy in his remarks and what to say about Mr. Blatter? Doesn't mean they are not capable of doing a good job but...

... I always get the feeling that they have an unnecessary patronising attitude towards anybody raising genuine concerns about the game.

Goal line technology issue, declarations on racism (Bla&Pla) and even the financial fair-play are all very ego driven in my opinion.

On Financial Fair-Play. It takes away the chances of any other team to ever dream of league titles. Top teams always earn more as it is...

... How do you want to overturn the balance of power if you don't have the possibility to invest in order to close the gap with top teams?

how fucking much do i love this man honestly. it's so refreshing to have an articulate and intelligent captain more than capable of intellectually putting across his point in a language that isn't even his own. i've read umpteen fans of other teams saying how much they like him as well and are very jealous that he's ours.
