My initial thoughts on an English team winning a penalty shoot-out in Europe were that this boded well for English football, particularly with Joe saving two penalties.

Then it dawned on me........our penalties were scored by a Welshman, a Bulgarian, a German and a Croat.

Our only Englishman missed!

I would of been very surprised if corluka missed. He's really talented on the ball.

Petrov was the one I was expecting to miss. I knew Johnson was going to miss aswell, he needs to get his head from out his ass!! He's been poor since he turned down that contract

I text my Dad saying I had a bad feeling about the penalty shootout.

He replied with "What will be, will be son. Hart will be the hero"

That text made me smile after the game!! :D

It was quality when hart said everyone has been jumping on the city bandwagon (taking digs at us). Giving the old media the 2 finger salute :D

I meant Hart should've run off going spastic, but I couldn't find a picture of when Weaver did that.

That is the closest I could get.

My dad said before the shootout Hart would save the third.

I was scared though. I thought we used up all our penalty luck against Gillingham in 1999.

We had - remember the Carling Cup shootout a couple of years back (Doncaster? Darlington? Sommat like that), where we didn't score a single one? Fortunately, it's come round again.

Before Gillingham we'd had pens against Blackpool in one of the cups at home. We were piss poor in that one and lost - Bradbury skying our last one into the rear of the Umbro Stand.

Maybe it does come alternately. Here's hoping we don't have another shoot-out then.

I watched it in a pub in Seattle, having taken a day off work to do so. There was some old codger sat at the bar having a right chuckle to himself about it. Felt like bloody lamping him and knocking him right off his stool.
