great news about SWP, city legend through and through.
still, sign of a great side is to play crap and win right?

Kompany drank too much medicine and his head swelled to 4 times it's normal size.

Should be ok for the weekend i'm told

Andy Gray is no alien, just a very inept pundit. Shame on you. God status revoked!!

My wife, the English teacher, says you should use both the comma and the "and" is that situation.

She may be incorrect, but you'll have to be the one to tell her.

That's called an 'Oxford Comma'. Either with or without it in that situation is acceptable, though there are schools of thought in favour of both, with each side claiming they reduce ambiguity.

It's bollocks though, go with how you feel on t'day.

Is not your lovely wife a teacher of English to Americans?
Our colonial cousins are in the habit of using the Oxford Comma.

No, she's a teacher of English to Canadians (actually to lots of new immigrant who come speaking Mandarin or Cantonese).

I love learning about the "Oxford comma" though, since I'm not trained to teach anything interesting. Now is there a "Cambridge comma" that can be called upon from time to time?

I don't see why everyone is so happy.
We were worse than crap for 90 minutes against a well organised crap team from a very small country who would probably equate to barnsley or some such in England. Jo is not the Messiah, most of the others looked totally disinterested and everyone here is going round like we won the FA Cup. Now, he says, smugly, I know that most of you don't have much experience of supporting a winning team, but we really have to be realistic. It was the the qualifying round of the least important European competition -- not the final.
I will say no more about the return of SWP, I made my position clear on another thread.
Stop drinking, and get real.
We will probably lose at Sunderland cos today will have taken too much out of the poor dears.
If they are paying SWP as much as we think they may possibly be, then he had better get his finger out on Sunday, although I suspect he will actually have played less competetive football than Jo this season.

Don't mind me, I have seen it all before.

Fuck sake Bert, you low on valium?

I'm a very happy boy tonight. Yes we played shit. Too many bad performances to mention, but we are through and we therefore have something other than the normal humdrum to keep us mildly interested, hopefully at least til the New Year. I don't expect us to win it.

I'm very happy about SWP too. He gives us more options. We have a promising young squad. Hughes has promise also. Jo has played but two games for us and is only 21. You've been hanging around that perennial wind up merchant Bastard too much.

You're right about one thing though. You have seen it all before. You've seen us win the League, the FA Cup, Cup Winners Cup and more. You know it's possible to be successful. You have less cause than the rest of us to be so bitter. Let others dream if they want to. Can't do much harm, can it?

I am not bitter. I just don't want you all to get so excited when we have not yet achieved anything. Course I hope SWP does well, I am just not convinced yet that he will.
We won today by the skin of our teeth, a win is a win, but as I said it was not against the world's greatest team. All Iam saying is calm down a bit. It is a long season, hopefully all will go well but there is plenty of time to trip up.
I have seen all the things you mention but I have also seen total, utter and abject failure.

We were a fucking shambles. I know we're through, but do we want to be a little bit luckier next time? From what I've heard we were shite, Jo was too lightweight and it was a generally shit performance all round

Oh come on Bert. The weather's shit, the economy's fucked, Big Brother's still on the TV, we need something to be cheerful about.

You have a right to be reticent Bert.

Things seem to be coming together, but as today has shown we are nowhere near the finished article. For one thing its going to take a while for all these individual players to work themselves into a team. One of the problems with our passing is that players are still figuring out what their teammates are likely to do.

It shouldn't take until Easter, but it will take most of the autumn for the team to settle in. In the meantime we can expect some inconsistency - which shouldn't be a problem. We are City afterall.

Why the fuck did he take Elano off ? Its obvious to all but an idiot hes our best player. What 3 goals in 2 games in the league ? Top scorer last season despite injuries, loss of form / being played out of position.

He takes off Ben Haim and brings on Hamman (who played very well) still what about Johnson ? Hes been shit bar half a dozen games for city in his entire career. We all know he has a bad attitude, let not gloss over the issue.

Really he is not one of our own. He has been shit for god knows how long, I would take Arsenal / Evertons arm off if they offered £8 million.

I am sorry Ireland has been a miles better player for us in midfield. Given the choice I would keep him over Johnson anyday....Over my dead body we would loose him over johnson - at any stage. I know Ireland has issues but at some point you have to form an opinion based on performances and I cant rememebr the last time Johnson had a good game for city.

Fuck off with your doom merchantism. If you have nothing positive to say about the whole "going through" thing, fuck off. We all know we were shit, we all know we need to improve, we're all pinning our hopes on Shauny, and hopefully he'll do the biz. Think of the extra revenue, and think of the fact we've already beaten one of the favourites in AC Milan pre-season, so revel in the fact we're through.

well we won, we're through, we gained some european experience and these are all great. hopefully as the young players continue to improve and get confident we'll be better. our rm problem has been solved with a great swp comeback so things are really going great at this time. btw, how did jo play?

The vast majority on here have seen nothing but. We are all well qualified to spot a false dawn when we see one.

I agree some are prone to giddyism, but IMO the level headed amongst should be pleased to be through yet realistic enough to know it'll go tits up before the season's out.

You gotta start the season with optimism. You just gotta.

p.s. Liverpool have been shit this season yet they're joint top and in the CL groups. They are our realistic target. I say go for it.
