Vassell has always been a confidence player. Hope he gets a couple of goals early season whilst Jo, Boj and Benjani are out then he could start scoring more regularly. His pace always causes teams problems and he never stops chasing. A good game against Villa will set him up for good few games. Hughes seems to be getting the best out of him. Seems to be have been involved in most of pre-season and has the beginnings of a good understanding with Petrov.

Saw the last 15 minutes. Thought the goal was well worked - nice touch from Vass. Overall I thought it was just a pre-season kick about.

Following on from City's 1-1 draw at Parkhead against Celtic, Manager Mark Hughes has revealed his pleasure with the player's performance.

The impressive Martin Petrov opened the scoring on 53 minutes, but Celtic pulled level on 78 through youngster Paul McGowan, and afterwards Hughes said: "I was looking for a performance and I think I got one tonight.

"Obviously we needed a result in the European game, but we needed a performance, which I asked the players for and I think I saw that. As well as a physical workout we needed to see an improvement in how we are approaching games and taking it to the opposition.

"We will always keep the ball well and circulate it well, but I just thought we were quite dynamic, got into good areas and broke quickly.

"We had a lot of pace in the team and that’s something we’re trying to introduce into the side. There was good energy on the pitch and we got up to the ball and pressured the opposition into mistakes in their own half.

"We played most of the football in the opposition’s half which is what we want to do."

Thought Tel Ben Haim looked really good when he came on, might push for a starting place.

Great overall performance, be more than happy to watch that level every week.

Sloppy goal and lack of concentration last five, new partnership though, so let them off.

Yeah, the goal was very fluky.

Don't know how the same guy didn't finish that shot that hit the bar.

The goal conceded was piss poor. From the little I saw I thought we did well and got the better of them. Spent more time in their half attacking and we held the ball and passed very well.

Personally i think Tal and Dunney will be the centre back pairing, and Richards at right back.

There was talk of us being close to a deal for Chretien who is basically a full back. I think it is pretty clear that we considered selling Corluka. If it doesnt happen it seems to be down to the player wanting to stay which is good news.
