Hi all

Firstly, apologies for not looking at this sooner. As noted on another thread I rarely get to browse the forum now with new job commitments. I should do I know but I have always put my trust in a good group of mods! I am very sorry!

Onto the problem. For now I have just set the forum so all accounts need to be activated by me. I am now going to try to add even more anti-spam bits on the registration form. As soon as I get the number of registrations down to what I believe to be 'proper' users I will then open the registration back to be activated by the end user via their email address.

I have no idea what happened at the back end of last week but I see there were lots of registrations/spams and also a massive amount of 'people' on at the same time. I assume some auto script somewhere got tuned but again this is my fault and I should keep up to date more with the spammers.

been splatting what we can, even managed to work out how to block delete loads of threads. not sure if the banning/ip banning works or not, fairly sure there were some i banned who then posted a couple more threads/times. any way to open up the account activating to mods, or is it only open to "god" accounts?

Yeah cheers all good here. Just hectic now with 2 young uns!

The checking for newly registered users is only a temporary measure just so I can check to see whether the spam signups slow down.

Changing the spam question an adding a further element already seems to have had an impact

I will leave it as it is for a day or two and then put it back as it was assuming only good registrations are being added.

Also, just did a bit of housekeeping and updated to the latest version of the forum software.

You probably won't see many changes, it looks like mostly bug fixes.

They're all pre 2nd Dec registrations. Just keep banning & should stop eventually.

Cloudy is correct.

Unfortunately they all registered before the change and can still post.
If they are banned when the posts are added it should slow down and stop soon enough (I hope!!)
