Not sure if I'll get to many this year but this looks like a goody!

Festival Watch | Forbidden Fruit

Forbidden Fruit is a brand spanking new Festival set to hit Dublin this summer and today’s the day when the line up will be announced. Start your engines Sirens, it’s gonna be big.

At 8pm tonight, the new Bulmers Forbidden Fruit Festival will announce the Line Up via their Facebook page facebook.com/forbiddenfruitfestival and with the clues they’ve been dropping via some clever video teasers it could be anybody from The Flaming Lips to Wild Beasts or Jamie XX.

It’s all very Ssssh… Secret Squirrel at the moment but whoever it is, the festival, run by POD promotions, set to take place June 4th & 5th at IMMA in Kilmainham, D8, promises International acts and DJ’s, three stages along with food markets, art exhibits and fashion stalls.

UPDATE: We attended the launch for Forbidden Fruit Festival tonight in Smithfield Fruit Market in Dublin 1. Sponsored by Bulmers and with plenty of Bulmers Pear and Berry on tap it was a chance to view the Festival’s maps of the apple shaped layout in the meadow at IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) and get the first spark of festival fever for this summer. Most important was the Line Up announcement and we’re ridiculously excited to confirm that our predictions were correct and The Flaming Lips will headline!!

DAY 1 - SAT 4TH JUNE

The Flaming Lips
Wild Beasts
Erol Alkan
Aeroplane
Jape
Ham Sandwich
Colourmusic

DAY 2 - SUN 5TH JUNE

Aphex Twin
Battles
Caribou
Jamie XX
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip
Kormac’s Big Band
Solar Bears

I don't know what people hear in Aphex Twin, the group fall firmly in the musical Venn diagram circle of 'music I have no idea why people listen to for entertainment'. Along with Radiohead.

I always think to myself: 'What are they hearing that I can't? Am I missing something?'

Yeah. It's like dog whistles innit. I actually hear Scarlett Johannson in the throes of orgasmic bliss instead of Thom Yorke.

Aphex Twin isn't an easy listen. Can't say I spin his discs too often. I saw him live a few years ago at Oxegen. It was fucked up. He had gurners onstage and showed very disturbing films and hard porn to go along with the music. I wear ear plugs at gigs but this was still very loud.

People emerged from the tent in a state of shock.

Still, it was better than seeing Stereophonics on the big stage.

i like aphex twin generally, but yes, some of his tunes are fucked up/hard listening. have it on in the car quite a lot, but then i also have a disc of selected tracks.

the more chilled stuff like nannou or alberto balsam is remarkably soothing and beautiful, but some other tracks (like Omgyjya-Switch7, seriously how does he name this stuff?!) are savage on the ears. "i care because you do" is a cracking album, drukqs isn't a particularly easy one (has that track on it) but then it also has Jynweythek which falls under the former class of his stuff.

Creamfields is near Warrington. The locals don't like it. They prefer Glastonferry.

Who's headlining this year? I went in 08, Pendulum and Kasabian were brilliant.

He was there at 08 also very good from the very little I remember, Chemical brothers are doing glazo aswel on the Sunday which kind of makes up for Beyonce headlining.

This. Benicassim's one of the best I've been to.

I've fucked my Glasto ticket off. Might do a couple of cheeky days at one or two festivals. The Leeds day with Jane's Addiction playing is quite tempting. There's something in Dublin I'm being mithered to go to too.
