Where do you stand on it?

I like it, but I can see how it's probably wrong and yet I've downloaded squillions of albums I never could've bought. It has also made me go out and buy albums because I do like having an actual disc and case and booklet and so on.
Tell me your thoughts now.

Your thoughts are my thoughts also.

I know that doesn't forward the conversation very much but... It's just the way it is. Sorry dude.

That went well then. What shall we discuss instead?

I'm sorry I wasn't much help. I'm just watching the end of Cheech and Chong. Then I'll think more.

Cant live without it, but i think in ways what it does is improve the music\film industry as the producers have to find new ways of drawing the lazy downloading customers back into buying the product which can result in new offers, techniques of production and develpoment of new technology etc.

So, when i download music\movies illegally i feel i'm contributing to the greater good of the human race.:D

I think the legality is a moot point..people are always gong to find a way to share stuff and the sooner the riaa and such realise it the better. The music/movie industry have to find a way to compromise..dont ask me how but I reckon they better before they self implode...Question for yas...if I took a dvd round to a mates house and gave it to him, would he be committing a crime? Whats the difference if its done digitally?

In essence its the same, your point is very valid. I think its the scale of the digital sharing though, one guy buys a dvd and uploads it, axxo say (a guy who uploads alot of new dvds), for the next few months tens of thousands of people download it. Eventhough the process is the same the end result is an astonishing loss in potential revenue.

Doesn't really bother me though, i'm willing to remain ignorant.

Back to football :p

What is ironic though is the very people(the film makers) who complain about the public illigal downloading, are the exact same people who don't want to pay the actors a share of the profits from online sales. Because it's a revenue that never existed before it was never written into contracts. Actors want it to be but the makers are stalling. Can they not see the irony.

I like to download a tune to check the band out, then go and buy the album.

Illegal downloading is no different to walking into HMV and shop lifting.

I agree. the one thing about being able to hear a tune before buying, is that in the long run it should stop you from dropping major bollocks in the 'music investment' department.

ESM, you're quite right. I have reported MicahRichardsAteMyBaby to the appropriate authorities.

We pay for shoplifters crimes not the shops.

All the security in stores, cctv, security guards, special seals on packaging, etc, etc. All of that we pay for at the checkout.

And who picks up the tab for the billions of lost revenue through illegal downloading? The record labels? the artists? us? Nope, as Bassman has already said it's investment in new talent that gets the chop.

I dont think this is the case at all, with the amount of money in the entertainment industry if there is talent around its picked up quickly. I dont see how you can say, and i'm paraphrasing here so correct me if thats not what you meant, illegal downloading decreases investment in new talent.
