168 fans arrested at Metallica concert

168 people were arrested at a Metallica concert in Colombia last night

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse hundreds of gig goers in the country’s capital, Bogota, after a riot broke out as they tried to get into the sold out concert without tickets.

The city’s authorities deployed approximately 1,500 police officers and four tanks to bring the mob under control during the 45-minute riot. Eight people were reportedly hospitalised with injuries ranging from stab wounds to broken limbs.

Bogota’s police chief, Ruben Castillo, called the rioters “misfits”.

This is the second time a riot has broken out in the Bogota during a concert - fellow heavy metal legends, Iron Maiden, found themselves in the middle of a riot in the Colombian capital a year ago (March 7, 2009). 111 people were arrested during that incident and a police officer was left in need of facial reconstructive surgery

Sounds like one that was worth going to.

Is it suprising? over there the police are so corrupt they treat music fans like dogs, when fans are queing to get in they pick on random fans, strip search them, nick whatever belongs they want, rough them up a bit and then place them back at the end of the queue....Its almost similar to the treatment you get from stewards at old trafford...
Is it a wonder riots occur?

I spent the a few months in Bogota(dreary place) and Cartegena(paradise) and I was surprised at the development in Colombia. Cartegena is as nice as any town from my home state(Illinois) and the women are, well, by FAR the most beautiful in the world...just my opinion, of course. Nevertheless, like most South American countries, the police are a little rough around the edges, although things are changing rapidly from what I've saw/heard. If I had to guess, Colombia will be a top tourist destination very soon, if for nothing more than the beautiful women and beaches(in CG)!

I have friends from Columbia, some of the nicest people I've ever known.

I have also heard and witnessed that Columbia's women are regarded as the fittest in SA. A couple I have seen make Shakira look ordinary.

You're a City from IL? Do tell.

Forgot I posted this...

Spent a semester in Manchester ten years ago or so, and I couldn't stand the United fans before I really knew what United was. I decided to hop on a bandwagon, well, you could say 5 of my room-mates forced me to jump on the City bandwagon, and after one game it was love at first sight...with the team and the sport. So, yeah, I'm certainly a bandwagon jumper, but I did it well before the new owners came in...if that counts for anything.

Since then I've made scattered trips back to England to see my old friends and catch a game or two...just love the atmosphere...it puts the NFL(the other football) to shame. The only sport that compares, in the States, for entertainment value and atmosphere, is the NHL(Hockey). Baseball, while a great game to play, will put you to sleep if you just watch, and Basketball has been going downhill since the greatest athlete I've ever seen(Michael Jordan) retired.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois...went to school at Uni of Chicago, which hooked me up with the semester in Manchester. I'd love to retire to your city someday, but immigration aint too keen on letting 'Yanks in at the moment.
