new live album out right now from his 2008 tour, just found a link to a live concert from the same tour, really enjoying it. Would suggest already having some experience (and ideally liking) Waits before listening

He's an odd one for, obviously very talented but I prefer to read his lyrics (which are often brilliant) because I just don't like the music he makes. I know a few punters who went to see him on his last tour, never heard a comment that was anything less than outststanding.

I think he's great. A real original and better known now than I ever thought he'd be.

I remember hearing Downtown Train by Rod Stewart years ago and thinking much as I hate Rod that is a song alright.

A mate of mine (reliable, but I've never seen this quote anywhere else) said that Rod Stewart had said about Downtown Train "I took an average song and made it great".
