I've got some music that is in the format of FLAC files. Windows media won't play it, and iTunes doesn't seem to want to import it. Any ideas anyone?

*awaits Cloudy's "get a mac" comment*

I use media mokey which is free to download and will play and/or convert between a multitude of formats. If you have a load to do then something like dBpoweramp will do a whole library for you but I haven't used it.

Only one album. I'll have a look for that now.

I did indeed, some good stuff there. I still need to add them to my library but I've got some Amazon vouchers I've just used to purchase a 1Tb external HD, so I'll be putting everything on there in the next few days.

I need to get at least one of these (perhaps 2 depending on how I sort out my main storage) - backing up is the key I don't want to have to rip everything again.
My various streaming devices and equipment are coming together nicely (but slowly) - squeezebox boom in the postal system somewhere and my new (repro) dac on shortly on its way from Sheffield to servicve my squeezebox duet. I will have to sort some video steamiong out (via ps3) at some point but music is my main priority at the moment.
Cashed in all my shrapnel recently which got me a massive tv too.

I went for this one

Not bad for £62 I thought.

I always post on the computer threads..such a nerd!

http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html

You souldn't need to use another player, just install the above codec and it'll play in WMP (I think!! - Linux addict etc).

Would be a shame to convert them too.. the 'l' stands for lossless. Should have the depth of sound that an mp3 lacks.

I don't have any to hand but its this baby:

http://www.televisions.com/lcd_tv/Philips/Philips_42_PFL_8404_H.php

I was sceptical of the ambilight thing but I squeezed an extra 10% off the price so was happy to experiment based on the good reports I had heard (it was too light in the shop to see it properly) - I have to say I am impressed, its hard to say exactly what it does, perhaps blends the screen into the wall behind a bit but it certainly looks better when it is on.

The SD quality is pretty good and the HD as you would expect. I am really looking forward to getting going on Bioshock. My old TV was really quite shit.

I've downloaded this and installed, but not sure that it has changed anything. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong-do I need to do something in WMP?

My guess was 'no'...

However, I should have read the FAQ before being a know-all. :-)

http://flac.sourceforge.net/documentation_tasks.html

"Windows Media Player (WMP) - Microsoft does not make it easy, but try this DirectShow filter" --> http://www.free-codecs.com/download/madFLAC.htm
