Apparently some just don't work, check the product for customer reviews etc like i did. Buffalo are good and cheap, great reviews too, worth checking out. They just "Plug and play", no set up or anything.

Just got a new one. Just wondering if anyone has ever connected an external HD to the USB port of their hifi? I know it works with USB sticks but not sure about an actual disk drive?

What hifi did you buy Noddy?

Nothing too flash. Only a budget system but it's better than what I had (nothing)

Paired an Onkyo CR 525 with some Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's. Crap not getting hifi and speakers today. I knew I should have bought them from the same shop to stop this happening!

Sounds like a good combination. Frustrating about not having both today though.

Coming to EoTR this year Nodds? Good lineup again I think.

Let's not talk about it eh? I'll end up crying.

I don't have any sort of streaming working. And that makes me sad.

If my Onkyo (606 I think) is any sort of guide you'll be very happy with your amp there Nods.

You need to make sure the formats are compatible, if you're running windows you'll probably be FAT32, if the hifi is NFTS then you will have to jigger it all about and reformat etc. The Buffalo HDD i use came preformatted in FAT32 and my pc and ps3 read it as soon as i hooked it up:)

It needs to be FAT16 or FAT 32.

The manual can be found here:

http://www.superfi.co.uk/extras/Onkyo/onkyo-CR-525-325-manual.pdf

If anyone in the know could please spare the time to have a look and give me some idea if a HDD would be compatible it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Nope, In theory they all work. I have two, one is a Siemens and the other a Lacie and they work fine and dont have to be FAT32 either for Music, photos or Video files. Ive also plugged others in no problem, including usb sticks.

If your having issues finding files, first make sure your in the relevant menu as mentioned before, so Video’s for Video’s and so on and if that doesn’t work press the triangle and display all and you can normally find the files then. It works for me anyhow.

I swapped out the HDD too for a 320GB internal drive. I use media player for streaming.

Looking into it. Hopefully will magic some money up out of nowhere. Would love to be able to go and bring the little un. Although it would mean a much more sober affair :(

I've not tried this. I doubt it'll work though. Mine is hexed (it's also a US PS3-would this make a difference?).

UFC 2009 rocks though.

I've done this recently.

I use Tversity. You can stream Sopcast through it for a surprisingly high quality picture.

In theory you should be able to plug it into your PC and check the format in the options of the drive.

Plug into PC, goto my computer, right click on HDD external drive and options.

In the general tab it tells you the format in File system.

Should work. I sometimes have issues seeing all files and then by doing this you can see them all. Give it a go. Shouldnt make a difference though thats its a US one as the FW is in theory the same.

It ought to be able to work as a media server too. It won't. I will try that though, hang on.
