I too know a David Gates. Well, when I say "know" I mean I heard him on records that my mum used to play. And he gets played on Radio 2 quite a bit. Had a nice line in tuneful, pseudo sexual acoustic guitar balladry:  Then turned into a bit of a paedo:  Overall a good bloke. Ask any 17 year old.
