Truesay.

That guy's the coolest white bassist ever. I love his stoicism.

(start it at about 2.30. Also, there's a lesson in dancing at about 3 minutes too)

That's a brilliant find, jeebs. I haven't played guitar in ages and after seeing that, I will never be able to. Amazing and makes it look so simple.

As for the bassist first posted, he looks quite smug IMO, but playing like that, he has a right to. What a great sound.

Did you know that kid couldn't play a note and they had to cut holes into the back of his shirt sleeves for someone to put their arms through to play the banjo but so it looked like the kid's playing.

Is that a lie? I'm checking.

Not convinced yet. That article says Billy Redden was retarded, wiki says:

To add authenticity and humor to the film, the filmmakers found Redden to fit the look of the inbred and mentally retarded banjo boy called for by the book, although Redden himself is neither.

Edit:

And despite the claims of that site to say it comes from imdb, there is no mention of the claim on imdb.

I remain unconvinced

Maybe it is there and I missed it. Still not 100% conviced.

Ah, go on, why not. I'm convinced. He isn't retarded tho.

Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deliverance

Quote:
Billy Redden, who played the banjo playing boy, could not really play the banjo. Another young banjo player knelt behind him and reached around Redden's chest to reach the banjo, with Redden wearing a specially made shirt that made the man's arms appear to be Redden's. Additionally, the shot was filmed from angles that made it impossible to see the musician behind Redden on the porch.

Not a lie. This is true. Look again at the film and it looks a bit funny.

It is also true that they had to haul the red neck "actor" off Ned Beatty as he became to "involved" in his role of making the city boy "squeal like a pig" and attempted to continue after the director had shouted "cut".
