Got my ticket to see them tonight!

A quiet evening of cheerful easy listening pop to look forward to!

What sort of music are they? Heard the name, not heard any of their stuff (saved you from a coodering, unintentionally, so I demand to know)

Early stuff was made up of recycled Black Sabbath riffs, distorted vocals with the tapes speeded up or slowed down. Very fucked up and disturbing.

Later stuff was more tuneful but with a very twisted sense of humour.

They are rich blokes from the Southern States. Gibby Haynes, the singer, went to University with Jimmy Carter's daughter. He was invited to a dinner party at the Carter mansion and managed to wander around by himself until he found the ex-President's office. Frustrated by his failure to open the locked briefcase on the desk, he shot his load on it.

Butthole Surfers live in Vicar Street, Dublin 24/7/2008.

Strange gig. Butthole Surfers were loud and disturbing. Made lots of noise while Charlie Brown cartoons played on the screen behind them.

They were supported by a bunch of 16-17 year olds from a rock school who did Iron Maiden, Dio and Jackson 5 covers. The teenagers also joined the Butthole Surfers throughout their show as guest musicians and eventually took over the stage at the end and trashed it.

Top band, seen them a few times over the years... is Gibby still with them?

A mate of mine was the first to bring them over to the UK and sign them onto his label (Blast First) along with Sonic Youth and Big Black.

Got to meet them (and get wasted)with them all :D

Yeah he is still there. Was in a foul mood because the lights annoyed him. He had them all turned off.

Butthole Surfers, Big Black and Sonic Youth? You're mate was on the money!

Did you meet Steve Albini? What was he like?

A right obnoxious bastard TBH .. but that was his charm,he was like that with everybody.
I was at school with Paul Smith ,he formed Doublevision label in Nottingham and put Caberet Voltaire on it and was onstage with them doing the video backdrop's.... and then later on formed blast first.
He also brought 'The Swans' over for the first time..one of the best gigs i've ever been to....and the loudest.:D

I know a lad who made an album with Albini. The band were called Joan of Arse. He found him ok and he gave them a very good deal for his time and studio. I suppose it is different when he's being paid to do a job.

Didn't realise those boys were touring.

had a lot of (very confused) fun at their gigs over the years.

I think its their first tour in years. Never had the pleasure before. It was very strange. And loud. I was up the front and was bashed by the mosh pit. A few elderly punk women with dreads thought it would be funny to throw their knickers onstage.

Haven't seen them for something like 15 years.

Gibby had some major drug issues after their last European tour - he ended up in an Italian drying out clininc/rehab in a suite next to Kurt Cobain. Cobain killed himself a few days later.
