A few weeks ago a junior member of the extended Slart clan declared she was a Liverpool fan. I had to move quickly. On my last trip to Manchester I made sure I bought city shirts for all nieces and nephews. The child in question is now a City fan.

It is essential that you sort these things out at an early age. There is a school of thought that kids should be allowed to choose their own team. This is wrong. This kind of decision is far too important to be entrusted to a child. Indoctrination is the only way.

Good blitzkreig action Slart. Nice work.

My uncle (dad's brother) was a Wolves fan as a kid because he liked the kit. After they beat City once my dad pinned him down and told him if he wasn't a City fan by morning he'd beat him up, which amazes me because my dad isn't violent. But it worked, my uncle is as big a City fan as anyone, because he was taught the error of his ways as a child.

Well done Slart.

A friend of mine has bettered this IMO. His best mate is a Rag and his wife is a Scouse supporter. However, my mate has bought their son loads of City stuff and neither parent is too bothered. (probably as they don't have to buy their own child much clothing).

my little brother, who was always an awkward little sod - started out as a rag - when he moaned about never going to see a football match, my dad said as long as he supported 'them' he would never take him

said brother is now a season ticker holder for about 20 years

People ask me what i'd do if i ever had children that turned out to be rags. They always seem shocked when i say that i wouldn't take them, as if i'm saying something awful. Nobody seems to realise it's for the benefit of the child.

I also get a bad reaction when i say "put it in a bag and sail it down the river".

My cousin had a son last December, she's a City season ticket holder, her husband loves football but doesn't really follow anyone, just hates United and his mum (the childs grandmother) is a massive red. They took their son round to Granny's to babysit in a City babygrow, when they went back he was in a United babygrow. They told her if she ever did that again she would no longer be alllowed to babysit, and they were serious. That's top parenting.
