Saul was the most likable character by far so it makes sense he's getting a series.

Yeah I've got a Samsung too which is fine except for the motion blur which seems to have got worse as it's got older? I've fiddled with the picture settings to no avail so might invest in a new set. Makes sense to go 4k I think as cost is falling week by week and an LG 42" can be had for 500 quid from Richer Sounds.
I want a non 3D one, which that is, too.

According to this http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/why-ultra-h ... ll-stupid/ there is no point unless you're either going to sit really close to your screen or have one 100+"

You're going to pay around the £500 mark for a decent 42" "fullHD" set anyway so you might as well get the 4k I suppose. Providing it's got all the inputs you need and a good contrast ratio

Where's your nearest RS? They will always let you demo stuff so you might as well take your favourite blu-ray and head down there

You can get good 40" HDTV's for £300-350, my bro's just bought a Samsung one. Also, taking a blu-ray to try out a 4K TV isn't gonna help much as the max resolution of a blu-ray is 1080.

The only reason at the moment to get into 4k is for gaming, even then it's still waay too early. You can get half decent 27" 4K monitors for around £500 now but they're recognised as budget and you'd need a monster rig to play them (2x R9-290s in crossfire would get you playable framerates in most common games - but you'd need the expertise and spend about another £1000-1500 on a new PC).

I think 4k blu-rays are to be released this year so you could perhaps buy a new blu-ray player; streaming 4k is gonna be limited and you're gonna need at least a 16mbps broadband speed to be able to stream at 4k. I just don't see the point yet. You're gonna buy a sub-par 4k TV that is gonna be outdated and old by the time 4k becomes commonplace.

I'd just buy a decent 1080 TV and maybe a decent surround system with your change. After the fail of 3D, manufacturers are trying to push new TV's on to us - 4K won't be ready for years yet.

It would allow you to sample the contrast ratio and overall picture quality e.g. colour saturation etc. compared to your old set, though

As for streaming, I'm only on M on Virgin and get 50mb broadband for that

Yeah the interwebs speed shouldn't be an issue, I'm on talktalk fibre and get 73mbps actual. But not everyone has that; my sister lives down the street and can't get Fibre - her broadband speed is shocking - less than 10mbps

As for contrast ratio etc that'd surely only be good to compare to 1080 sets though. The 4k is always going to look pretty good playing 1080 but you're gonna buy a huge premium on something that it may not be that great at and that you won't properly get to use for sometime yet

I suppose percentage wise you would be paying a premium over, for example, the set your brother got for £350 but in my eyes £500 isn't a huge amount of money considering my telly that I use cost me pretty much a grand.

I always think it's worth a look as resolution isn't everything. My telly is 1080i or 720p but to my eyes it knocks my dad's 1080p into a cocked hat for picture quality.

The only worry I would have over that TV that couldy is looking at is LG. My dad and father-in-law have both had LG's woth serious quality issues although that could just be coincidence

The resolution not being king is my point entirely - don't spend on a 4k TV assuming that 4K is better than 1080, t'aint necessarily so. There's different technologies involved in HD panel's IPS, OLED, VA etc each with better contrast levels, black levels, viewing angles, grey to grey time etc. The influx of higher res screens are having the plus effect of driving down the prices of the 1080 screens. I think it'd be much more prudent right now at seeking out the best performance to (your) budget ratio with 1080 screens. The infrastructure for 4K isn't there yet and won't be for some time

Good work lads, I might hang fire for a bit.

On the motion blur, what do I need to look for to make sure I don't get this again?
It's like a visible aura around a person that other people tell me they often see around me however it's not something I want on my telly.

Has it always been there? As TVs get older you can get what's called Ghosting, it's just the TVs incapacity to reset the image back to normal before generating it again. Refresh rate is what you need to look for. A quick Google shows that ideally to reduce /eliminate liminate motion blur you need a TV response time of less than 8ms and refresh of 120hz.

That's a decision I'd make after viewing a TV though, your gonna pay more for 120hz on the basis of your old TV being old. TVs of less than 120hz don't necessarily have perceptible motion blur so maybe ask to check out the higher refresh screens and then look at some of the lower refresh and see if you can see any difference. Some people can, some can't. But again, before spending your hard earned, I'd make sure you know exactly what you're buying into

EDIT: Phone typos

Cheers Coods, all good advice. My sense is that it's got worse over time but it may just be that I've got more sensitive to it as I'm focussing on it maybe?
