I emailed the club yesterday, enquiring as to the cost of sponsoring the matchball for the derby. Still no reply. I was thinking we could all chip in and name it after our Benny.

However, after much thought, I don't know if this would be a tad frivolous? Maybe a collection and donation to charity in his name would be more appropriate? I'm not aware of any charities Benny was a supporter of but I'm sure those who had the fortune to know him better than me could shed some light on this. I was thinking maybe the Samaritans or a mental health charity, due to circumstance.

As much as I'd love to see City beat the rags with a ball named after him, I just feel this would be much more constructive. I'd very much like to hear others thoughts on this

I'd had similar thoughts myself Nodds.

Be good to get Bastard's, Emigre and Paddy's views though I reckon.

Maybe find out what his family are doing and comply with their wishes.

depending on matchball cost, do both. i don't think there will be a shortage of tribute donations.

if we are going to request smt from the club, we can prepare a template e-mail and then all posters can send it to the club which would probably make a bigger impact

So quite a few different things have been suggested:

- chip in for match ball sponsorship
- chip in for a donation to charity
- chip in for flowers for the funeral
- get something in the matchday programme
- get something announced at the stadium

Are there any other suggestions? If so, I can edit this post and then the list can be discussed with Benny's family to see what they want.

We couldn't send the same thing. I think that would just piss them off.

Not this. I think this may be seen as a wee bit insensitive. I wouldn't like it, is all. It'd feel weird hearing Benny's name over the tannoy, and just a little... I dunno. I don't like this option though

I'm inclined to agree, plus it's less likely that the club would do this and I'd prefer something in the programme anyway.

Atleast if you go the programme idea. We can get a copy for his folks to keep. And all us. An announcement wont have the lasting impact of the programme

This. I think the programme idea is a definite. It'd be a lasting memory of Benny right where he'd want us to remember him, in the heart of his club.

When I thought about the ball, I was going to do one of those things people use for sponsorship. See if the club bother to reply first

The programme idea's already covered I think - Bastard's sorting it out for the Scunthorpe game. Definitely count me in for a contribution to whatever's decided is the best idea.
