I'd like to know where these bribes are supposed to come from. Blatter has strong support in Africa, South America, Asia and Russia - all likely destinations I would say. The whole thing stinks. I wouldn't mind one little bit if UEFA withdrew from FIFA.

Blatter resigns.

I think it was my ISIS post that sealed it.

I wonder if anything's been dug up on him. Seems strange going through the election process of not, I can't see that he knows anything now that he didn't know this time last week.

I think he just wanted to prove he was top man and could win and go when he wanted.
He will still be part of FIFA and will continue to pull the strings behind the scenes.
He is still not going to go to America though

South Africa fessed up to the $10m bribe and that it went through Blatters right hand man Jerome Valcke so he knew that the game was up.

He will still protest his innocence in that he probably never received any bungs himself but then he was paying himself €10m a year as President so didn't need to.

I thought the Saffas were claiming that $10m went towards football development in the Caribbean?

You're probably right but I wouldn't rule anything in or out just yet.

Blatter may have resigned but he is still in charge till the next election which may Beas late as next March.
Does this not give him the possibility of either improving the power of the Africans and Asians or just letting things roll along and not doing anything.
Of course he may not be able torun anything from a U.S. Jail cell

And why the FBI are involved (federal?!) as opposed to the CIA. Anyway, we know they are 'Team America, coming again to save the muthafucking day yeh'.

I think it's coz anything involving dollar trading (money laundering in this case) falls within US jurisdiction. Plus they made their boy fat Chuck Blazer squeal a while ago and they've had him wearing a wire and recording CONCACAF meetings that were held in the US, so they've got cast-iron evidence of corruption taking place on US soil.

It's FBI rather than CIA because RICO (racketeering) and money laundering are federal offences.

David Bernstein said: “Blatter reminds me of that film, Alien. You could not get the alien out of that spaceship, no matter how hard you tried. And when, in the end, they did get it out, they found that it was clinging on to the outside."

yes I just heard about Blazer as well, which makes tax evasion and laundering their (FBI) business. I bet if he wasn't dying he wouldn't have agreed to squeal. Blatter and co must be fuming he has grassed. a lot of people are in trouble here. :)

Whilst it's great to see the Blatter era finally crashing and burning there's a massive problem ahead now.
Like when we got rid of Saddam, what comes after could be even worse.

The voting in FIFA is (arguably) completely skewed so that countries with barely any professional football rank equally alongside England, Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil etc, etc.
Changing the constitution and keeping the countries that supported Blatter through 17 years of rank corruption onside won't be easy.
Then you've got the issue of Russia and Qatar WC's. Take either of those away then you'll spilt FIFA down the middle.

Wonder what the odds are on there being two "World Cups" down the line?
