Life on Mars 'will be US series'

Philip Glenister and John Simm played DCI Gene Hunt and DI Sam Tyler
US network ABC has decided to press ahead with a full series of time-travel drama Life on Mars, which is being remade for American TV, reports say.

A pilot episode was written by Ally McBeal creator David E Kelley, who had bought the rights to the show.

The Hollywood Reporter said ABC had now ordered an extended run, with Irish actor Jason O'Mara in the lead role.

The programme starred John Simm and Philip Glenister when it was originally shown in the UK.

O'Mara will take Simm's role as a modern-day police officer who is transported back to the 1970s.

The original version of Life on Mars won a Bafta last year and the finale of the show was seen by more than seven million people in April 2007.

It spawned a sequel - Ashes to Ashes, set in the 1980s - starring Glenister, who has now signed up to appear in a second series.

Americans can't handle foreign accents.

The were once going to remake Dr Who with David Hasslehoff as the Doctor and Pammy as his assistant. True.

They also struggle with the British sense of humour, do you think they would understand Gene when he says, "He's as useful as a spacker in a magnet factory."??

*Hearts that quote :D

I have a hard time understanding some Scousers but I'm sure most English people do as well.

When Kes was shown in the USA they used subtitles before they decided to redub most of the dialogue.

Lasy bastards!

One of my uncles somes from Royston just ourside of Barnsley, pretty much here Kes was filmed, and I have to say that when he's in full flow he might as well be speaking Martian.

I'd bet most of the whippersnappers around there today sound like a cross between Hollyoaks and Friends.

Hmmmm, not quite but I know what you mean. Nowadays dialect has been more or less eradicated and we have 'regional accents', some nice, many not so. When you proper Yorkshire/Lancashire dialect, it's more like poetry than speech, I'd even say the same for the Black country dialect.
