Anyone catch this last night? No matter your feelings about her it was absolutely quality TV, insightful and really informative, and the first time Portillo and Hague have spoken in years. Fascinating, truly. And I'd completely forgotten Iain Duncan-Smith :)

my sentiments. i may not believe in a god, but i sure as fuck hope there is a special fire in hell for these two.
although the thread title made me think it was the release of the most unarousing and disturbing porn film ever made...

In my opinion she was no worse than lots of other PMs. She did some good things and bad things and some very bad things.

Tony Blair has much to answer for as well,as did Harold Wilson*and others.

At least in the War stakes she played 1 won 1 as opposed to Blair played 1 and got a losing draw(cricketing expression).

*At least we won the World Cup when he was PM.

it wasn't even a war - it was a conflict, she was evil - plain and simple - even Blair's fuck ups were down to just plain incompetence, the thing that fucks me off about her is that she was the most impressive person to be pm in nearly 40 years and she still consciously made decisions that ruined anything outside of London

I had thoughts along those lines, certainly knocked the horn off my unicorn. There are a number of current ills that can be traced back to her.

tony blair will be remembered as having the chance to really make good, and fucking it up by being a conservative, starting an unwinnable unfightable war, and for staying in power too long so he could get his 10 year certificate. maggie... is just satan in my book.

The problem has been since Thatcher that the parties have come together and there is little or no difference between the 2 major ones.
My Dad had been a lifelong labour man but in 1997 he did not vote because he could not decide who was who.

quite true. depressingly. hence the increasing numbers who vote bnp, apparently.
cameron and the conservatives are slightly more odious though. i'd run that fucker over, kick it into reverse and make sure. labour seems to have an air of failed tory and incompetence about it, they've completely lost any remaining labour values.

The worst thing of all is that at the next general election we will be in the same quandary -- Labour will have had 13 years of untaken opportunities, the Tories have hardly any experienced politicians to take over and the Liberals, apart from Vince Cable, are colourless and faceless.

Labour have produced so many new laws , invasions of Privacy, nanny state attitudes, detention without trial, etc., that someone last week said that they are the nearest thing we have had to a fascist government for many a long year.

yup. but then the tories would fuck us in interesting new ways. like privatising anything that we have left of value. which admittedly isn't much...

foundation trusts, many feel it is thin end of wedge for privatisation. it could well be as well, one trust can bid for contracts outside of area, local decisions on what services are provided, "patient led"... i fucking hate that, patient led, like what? prescribing herceptin for the wrong type and stage of breast cancer at huge cost, because it is a patient led campaign backed by the bastard manufacturers, or patient led like the single MMR jabs were? dumbest. idea. ever.
but yeah, not a fan of the principle. it won't be nhs anymore it'll be local hs.
on the other side, we own lots of banks now apparently. lets let them run themselves and oh...

Conker. The Labour governments of Blair and Brown have been nothing short of disgraceful. Just as bad as, if not worse than the dead duck Major government they took over from.

And what's wrong with right-wing politics?

Right-wing >>>> Socialism. Every time.

Portillo's probably one of the best political commentators on TV. I like him more and more every time I see him.

It wasn't really him going on about Thatcher either, but if you want to jump to uninformed conclusions I won't judge you. ;)
