Not really "early" then is it Bert?

-1 thread rating for misleading title

I don't think we've ever had a proper pension thread.

I'm never really sure how happy i am with mine.

If you've got a bit of spare cash self trade SIPPs are a great idea. The government lets you put as much money as you want tax free into a stock trading account you mange, which you can access when you're 60. Put a few grand in 2 years ago and the pot's already 50% bigger (largely due to the performance of Playtech shares, which was a bit of a fluke). It's quite fun trading too, and not risky as you just don't sell shares for less than you paid for them - you can't touch it till you're 60 anyway. Or you fancy being boring just buy up a pension staple like Shell, set it up to keep reinvesting dividends, and by the time you cash out it would've doubled at least (depending how old you are...).

Our lot's fucked when we reach retiring age anyway. Brains turned to mashed potato by the abuse we've done to ourselves.

I'm basing my hypothesis on the degrees of your generation's dementia. That said I do think there's going to be some afters from the amount of horrible party drugs we've been pioneering, mephedrone or whatever m cat is being the prime example. Stayed well away from that myself, absolutely horrible drug

Stayed well away from all drugs other than those prescribed by the doctor -----------------and alcohol

When we were in our twenties there were not that many drugs available and certainly not all these chemically made ones like you have today.

I sometimes wonder if I missed something by not getting involved with drugs but somehow I doubt it.

Yin and yang. Can't have the good experiences without the terrible existential anxiety for days afterwards. In most cases not worth it for me. However I would like to make love on ecstasy.

it's the "mood drugs" like your ecstasy etc that are the as-yet-unknowns. speed/acid/mushrooms/coke/weed/booze have been around long enough to know that for the most part they won't fuck you up too much when you're old

I like this, but it's the not being able to get it until I'm 60 bit that bothers me. I'm already in that to a degree with my pension. I want to be able to put some money somewhere I can grab it when I might want to do something with it - eg I'm hoping to start housebuilding in a few years and would probably look to use some of my stash for that. maybe a stocks & shares ISA would be more suitable for me.

Yeah that's why the government dangles the tax free carrot under your nose, trying to get people to pay for themselves in 20-30 years time because they know they won't be able to if people go on living forever.
