Finnish Rita Suomalainen has been struck by cupid's arrow and is desperate to track down the mystery Manc she met in Sorrento for Valentine's Day reunion

A lovelorn student who was charmed by a Mancunian Romeo in one of Italy’s most romantic towns is hoping to track him down on Valentine’s Day.

Rita Suomalainen, 28, was swept off her feet by the mystery man who was in Sorrento for his cousin’s wedding on June 5 last year. They met one evening while she was on holiday at the resort and he walked her back to her hotel, Villa Maria, after she became separated from her friend.

Rita, from Finland, was bowled over by his chivalry and good manners as they spent a couple of hours by the seaside before he took her back to her hotel. They parted after a brief kiss and she was so overcome by her emotions she didn’t even ask his name.

Now, on Valentine’s Day eight months later, she regrets not being bolder and has contacted the M.E.N. to appeal for him to come forward.

The man was staying at the Hotel Ascot – and told Rita he had studied architecture at a university in Manchester.

He wore thick-framed glasses and said he was a Pisces star sign, born in 1984, so would turn 29 between February 20 and March 20 this year.

Rita said: “He has been on my mind ever since – I have thought of him every day. I know that I need a chance to tell him how I felt and still feel.

“I have been waiting for 10 years to fall for a guy like him. He was the personification of my dreams in every way. He was just mesmerising.

“Being with him there was the most enjoyable time in my life for a long time. He was polite, kind and gentle. It’s not easy to get me nervous and he did it all during less than a few hours. He is the most enchanting person I have met in my entire life.

“I will regret it for the rest of my life if I let this slip through my fingers without really trying every way to find him.”

Rita even used some of her savings to travel to London to try to find another man who was in Sorrento at the time in the hope that he would remember his name – but failed to track him down. She recalls that the man offered her his hand when they walked down some stairs – and offered to give her his shirt when she became cold.

Rita added: “I remember he had the most adorable laugh and said ‘right, right’ with his charming accent. He also told me I cannot really call myself a British gentleman if I let a lady walk all by herself in the middle of the night.”
