Me and the missus are going to possibly be in Leeds on Monday or Tuesday afternoon. It isn't a place I have been to other than doing a 10k run there.

Does anybody know any decent places to drink? Real ales and good wine would be ideal. Anywhere anybody can recommend to eat?

I know you will probably say don't bother but if that is genuinely your thoughts then we won't!

I went to Leeds on a stag weekend last year and was actually pleasantly surprised. The city has got a lot of old buildings / nice architecture that I never gave it credit for. There was a nice pub we went to in the center called the Cuthbert Brodrick, although it's probably better in the summer as it has a balcony area. BBC will be able to direct you to some good eateries I expect, although make sure he doesn't send you to a veggie joint :snooty:

Thanks for that. I had heard about the Chop House so will definitely try and get there if we go.

Sam's is probably my favourite bar in Manchester.

Whoops. Sorry I missed this thread. I like North Bar in the city centre just near the grand theatre, absolutely the best for beer and they're very friendly and helpful. There's loads of decent eateries as well although most of the ones I go to are outside of the centre. Depends what kind of food you're after. Chaophraya, Sukhothai and Jino's are all good Thai places, the first two are in the centre and Jino's in Headingley. Red's barbecue has just opened up near the Corn Exchange and is decent for all kinds of meat. Fuji Hiro's a great little unassuming looking Japanese place in the centre. There's Teppanyaki and Little Tokyo as well in the centre if you like Japanese food. Salvo's is a great Italian restaurant in Headingley. North bar do cheeses, meats, pies, that kind of thing if you're after a light lunch. The Corn Exchange is worth a look for being pretty and that and wander up and down the old shopping arcades, it's a good city just to walk around and has a lot of beautiful architecture more than people give it credit for.
